Burj Dubai

The new tallest building in the world opened today, with over 160 floors and some pretty cool eco-tech features. But I wonder when it gets to that point (er, and height), is it eco-sensitive overall to have such a tall building, or is it inefficient and 'wastes' energy? I wonder what the optimum height is for a building, or if there is one.

Article linked here for more info on the Burj Dubai.

  1. Do you think the 160th floor is 1 office wide? Kind of looks that way. Not sure how sweet it would be to be swaying in the wind that high. Some sky scrapers need an internal suspended center weight to offset the swaying of the building (no joke!) to lower the center of gravity.

My thinking is that the architect is a Dr. Seuss fan who was thinking that the head honcho (eg. Yurtle the Turtle) would take that 160th floor. Hopefully the head honcho doesn't ever realize the end of that story though.
