Why the hell is everyone using the word "egregious" nowadays? It's the new "surreal."

Is the reason why we're using this word this term because we've just been bad? Or are we simply trying to sound smart to preserve dignity after making a false comment?
Why are we so terribly wrong all the time this season?
If our previously trendy word was "surreal," and now we're at "egregious," what's next?

omg wow "surreal" DEF was trendy last season - my former bf used to say it ALL the time! That's so weird... I thought he just had a very high self-image and thought that his life/everything that happened to him was really surreal. But I guess it was apparently "trendy". I had limited exposure to English and English-speaking people, though, so my perception of its trendiness may be skewed. But I do think my life was rather surreal during that period. For reals. What are some examples of how it was "trendy"? I'm curious.
ReplyDeleteDaily..it was and is used daily, hourly and by the minute everywhere, particularly during interviews, with no/little understanding as to it's meaning. Can't think of examples as it is too maddening to reflect on it's use. Egregious is a close second, but it's no surreal.
ReplyDeleteAnd surreal, overused as it is, is still no "amazing".
