Spring Craving

Every once in a while, I get that itch to buy something from Urban... I'll show you what I'm sweatin' right now.

And one from Forever:
What I really want, though, is a bright pink sundress. Like, nearly hot pink but more berry. Like my perennial favorite nail polish color. But I haven't found this dress. Gee, shopping is hard.

More funky pants

I love both of these pairs of pants/shoes from UO. While G works on her white pants, I'm looking for a new crazy pair that I can play with. The first pair are Levi's and are only $58, but I need to wait and see. The shoes are really cute, too! The second pair of pants I feel like I could maybe make if I knew how to sew. And if I were willing to fool around with a pair of old jeans. Which at this moment, I don't have time for since I'm supposed to be studying for my Japanese culture midterm right now...damn you, Fujiwara!

White Denim

For some reason I really want a pair of white denim skinny jeans and a pair of white cutoff jean shorts (jorts...). I think I've wanted them for a while but I'm kind of terrified of buying a pair of pure white pants because it'd be like wearing a liability. It's almost like asking to sit on something. But I'm kind of bored of my pants selection now so maybe a pair is in order...

I like the cut of these (but don't love the pocket design - not pictured). White jeans... very Victoria Beckham, it feels like. Or Blake Lively, maybe.
Misfit Slim Leg Jeans
Style #:GOLDS20109
$169.00

Some looser-cut, not-as-short white denim shorts... perfect for pairing with everything.

The Boyfriend Shorts
Style #:CURNT20158
$147.00

Gah I am wanting to shop. You know that sinking feeling when you're tired of all your clothes? I need to buy professional clothes soon though (which will be nice too, that's its own reward), so maybe it's not prudent to spend on stuff like this, since I'll basically only be able to wear it on weekends... agh real life beckons, and I'm inching forward with one eye covered.

Garden Collection Spring 2010

H&M's eco-friendly spring Garden Collection is now in stores, and judging by the press release, the entire collection is softer than the hard-edged, big-city collections I've seen in the past, but still very on trend. Recipe for success??

Wow, I've never before wanted to go to the mall specifically to check out H&M clothes in person... I'll go look tomorrow and I'll report back as to if I buy anything.

Some pre-view faves, in order of most favorite-est to least favorite-est of favorites:

The red one is also available in paper white. I love white/cream/pale colored dresses, if you haven't already guessed.

Oi

BCBGMAXAZRIA RUNWAY One-Shoulder Shirred Dress
PRICE: $380.00

That's hot. I want a one-shouldered dress. My friend "M" (she made that broccoli dish for the dinner Fay blogged about last time ... let's call her "Em" instead of "M") visited me at home these past few days over the first week of spring break and we did some serious shopping in NYC. I found this great one-shouldered, similarly printed (slightly more ethnic, less floral) casual spring dress (which is what I'm currently looking for) in a store in Williamsburg, but it was a tad too short to wear modestly, so I didn't buy it. Sigh. So I'm still in the market.

I did find that striped shirt I'd been wanting, though! At H&M. And in the men's department! I hardly ever buy anything from H&M, much less the men's department. It's so soft and perfect for casual wear. It has roll-up sleeves, which I'm currently obsessed with, given the fact that I bought three button-up shirts last week to wear with sleeves rolled up.

Shopping shopping shopping.

Outfitting Myself in an Urban Manner

So I totally forgot about online shopping. Yes, I browse things, but I've been spoiled lately, you know, living in civilization and all. Now that I'm in the boonies, it's all I've got (shipping is cheaper than the Dartmouth Coach).

Here's the story:

I am arranging my room for the term, when I lose my footing and trip on my school bag--CRRRRAcccK go my sunglasses. My beautiful, Persol knock-offs from Forever 21 that cost $5. Though they were the second iteration (my first got me through Toulouse til they snapped one day), they felt like the originals. I love bargains and beauty, so when the two are combined it is magnificent. I'm in love with circular frames, especially tortoise-shell ones.
"prepster" shades, UO

My replacements were discovered for $10 on the Urban Outfitters website (F21 doesn't sell them anymore). I love sunglasses way too much, by the way. But with good reason--they are easy to try on and wicked fun to play with.

I also needed a new watch (the one I bought at Galeries Lafayette in Toulouse is being worn out), so I found a nice one with a small face that suited my fancy. (Just discovered it's been back-ordered, which sucks). And then as a final fun purchase I bought a striped shirt that I think will be cute.

Happy holidays, me!

Romper revisited

Ages ago, I posted about my desire to buy a romper, if only just to be the proud owner of a romper. Over a month ago, I finally ordered one online (pictured above). After it arrived, I wondered why it looked so familiar....
... and it's because I had commented on this EXACT romper in the aforementioned post (A million little things, six degrees of separation), where in addition to writing about onesies, I also wrote about the play "Six Degrees of Separation" and fashion photography featuring Gisele.

Over a year ago on Thursday, May 7, 2009, I wrote:

"This item below is fucking adorable... but not really class-appropriate now, is it. Perhaps with a little denim jacket thrown over it?"*

Ah. How prescient of me.  In person and on said person, the romper is obscenely short. Which is obvious from the photo below.... but I think I was swept away by the romantical lighting of the first photo and figured I would Make It Work.

But I was also right about something re: this very abbreviated piece of clothing -- it is adorable with my denim jacket. I've resolved to keep it, and wear it with bike shorts under the romper or real shorts over the romper with the peplum part showing over the shorts. Or for this season, maybe tights or leggings under the romper with a blazer on top. And in the summer, maybe I can wear it alone as a beach coverup with a colorful bikini ... and après beach, while casually biking back to the rental house on Fire Island with my friends. Or something like that. Either way, I eagerly await warmer weather.

On a related note, the Early Spring Catalog has been printed for Urban Outfitters, and there's nothing in it I'm dying to buy. Maybe they save those pieces for the Proper Spring Catalog.

I do like this shirt though. I'd like to buy some similar well-fitting button-down shirts going forward in both light and heavier cotton.

*I think as a general rule only tools and geniuses quote themselves... I won't make a judgment call if you don't.

Oof [Calvin Klein]

So I know the blog has run a little shoe-heavy (pun unintended) recently, but how perfect are these heels? This is so Calvin Klein. Now they're not the sexiest or hottest or most creative or mind-blowing heels I've ever seen, mind you. They're just an excellent example of when Calvin Klein do what they do best - simple, minimalistic, excellent material and shape, high quality and wear-ability. I see this being a good investment shoe - thick, stacked heel, most versatile color, and moderate enough for most events. And they're not even that expensive at way less than $100, on sale now at piperlime.com. Yay!

Fast Fashion Eye Candy

For a foray in the opposite direction, the following is a sample of quite inexpensive shoes available online. Perfect for finding less-guilt (in)destructible frat shoes.

1. Cute - could do without the buckle - but only useful if they fit very well/are easy enough to walk in. These look like something Gap or Old Navy would make.

2. The wood looks a bit over-lacquered but otherwise I love, love, love the look of velvet or velour on shoes. This is a pretty color, but I want a pair of velvet fuschia heels/wedges/flats.

3. A bit closer to stripper chic than I'd feel comfortable with, but if you can pull it off, more power to you!

4. Sweet and simple; look comfortable, good for summer, and red/standout enough to pair with any outfit.

5. Quite derivative... don't recall of what though. Marc Jacobs? I've def seen this before, though.

6. Speaking of derivative... haha. What was this, Balenciaga? But hey, there's a reason they were so popular in the first place. These shoes are hot.

7. Simple with enough texture/snakeskin pattern to keep it from being too boring. J. Crew, anyone?

8. Let me just whip these out for a quick run from my West Village address to the bodega down the block for a pack of cigs and some turkey jerky.

9. Nice, cute. Love suede shoes. Also available in many other delicious colors. But do note that suede is NOT Dartmouth-friendly.

10. Your avg. gladiator sandal with a bit more interest. I'm rather bored of this shape though.

11. It's nice, but I'm bored of this too.

12. This looks cool...

13. I do like this too. Potentially too much going on?

14. Ditto on the coolness. Although I am wary of the caged-foot look, regardless of how popular it is now.

15. Now THIS is frat-friendly. Patent leather is easily wipe-off-able. This shoe looks like a cross between those adorable Spanish men's slip-on flat sneakers (similar to Tom toms) and any given shoe at Conway. Haha does that = Dartmouth?

16. Now here are some BOSS faux eel skin shoes. For some reason, I'm really into shoes of diff animal skins. And yes, it's as bad as it sounds. I really want a pair of stingray-skin shoes (er... eventually). The texture looks REALLY luxe.

17. Fine for work etc, unremarkable otherwise.

18. Timeless material and color, but ditto. The cut is a bit high for my liking.

19. Oh wow. I think this is toned-down stripper chic I could live with. What occasion would one wear this to, though? Maybe it's just after living at school for so long, it's hard to imagine walking around in these heels for running errands.

20. Winner winner chicken dinner. I really like the overlapping detail and how it's different than what I've seen elsewhere. I would/may actually get these.

21. Prob also good for work or errands if you like a low wedge heel? Unremarkable otherwise.

22. Also love this. Not crazy original, but I've wanted a pair of satin leopard flats for quite a while now. Perfect for this for fall!

In terms of my current lifestyle, # 22 and #20 are my favorite/the best for me. How about you? What do you think of these shoes? Oh and the sweetest part about fast fashion? Everything here is about $30 or less. Yum yum.
