Listening to "Life Magazine" lately...hadn't seen the video til I decided to post...gives the song a different dimension. Really interesting stuff. Need to digest it for a bit. First impressions: like the exposure, concept, question of beauty, religion, sex...homage to madonna/marilyn and vintage beauties...it isn't too cliche, though, is it? I guess the song is called "Life Magazine", after all. It also seemed to allude to Mulholland Drive when the drag queen is dancing with the red gloves...kind of reminded me of the blue haired woman and all that exaggerated makeup/costume action. But maybe I'm giving the video too much cred. It's just refreshing to watch something a little confusing...especially when I'm taking a break from writing a research paper on Ed Sullivan and music television history, "liveness", and "televisuality".
This song's okay...very 80s/New Order/Cut Copy/The Knife/Ladytron...not very original. "Life Magazine" is much better.
