Elly Jackson

From The Cut:

She cites Michael Jackson, Prince, David Bowie, and Tilda Swinton as her style inspirations.
“I don’t want to be a man,” she says. “I very much enjoy being a woman — I love my body, and the sexiness of being a woman — but I like men’s clothes.”
Oh yes, those influences come through very clearly. Especially Tilda Swinton, they look hella similar.
“I am pretty ready to get rid of the hair, but I am kind of attached to it,” she says. “At the same time, I am kind of fed up with talking about it.”
It's such good hair! But I would be interested in seeing what would be next...

AND: SHE'S ONLY 22!! Ahh, makes me want to be a star too.

Reblogged from The Cut, which reblogged from WWD.

Bulletproof Music Video

I've posted on La Roux quite a bit, but I just saw her music video for "Bulletproof" for the first time (I think it was just released this week), and it's a cool one. Her bar-across-the-face eye/face makeup in the music video reminds me of the makeup I had for a fashion show I walked in: huge black bar across the eyes fringed with blue and tinged with silver. It was not a normal fashion show, haha.

"Bulletproof"

And here's "I'm Not Your Toy," which I'd also never seen the music video for. Gosh is it creepy. She's great.

Ditto "Quicksand"

Ditto "In For The Kill"

She's a freak, and I love her, and she is just too cool.

La Roux x2

It's a different song than last time, but same hauntingly good lyrics and voice and sound.

NYMag's Brooklyn Top 40

Oh, dear...

Check it out!

I'd never heard their number 1 before. I agree with all the GB, but think there should've been some more AC and PB. I'm obsessed with the song "Blind" by Hercules and Love Affair. Thought that "Kids" has become too mainstream to be considered in the list--needed to go to old-school Management instead, perhaps? But what do I know--I've never lived in Brooklyn, therefore I can't judge. I just happen to love indie music.

Like I said before, my taste has traveled abroad. Here are my top artists nowadays:

-La Roux (thanks, Georgina)
-Fever Ray
-The Knife
-Crystal Castles (really want to see them in concert)

-Royksopp

-Lykke Li

-Ladytron

But I'm not into Bjork for some reason. Don't call me crazy!

La Roux

Obsessed right now. The music sounds so metallic it feels like you're sucking on a metal-flavored lollipop.
