I've posted on La Roux quite a bit, but I just saw her music video for "Bulletproof" for the first time (I think it was just released this week), and it's a cool one. Her bar-across-the-face eye/face makeup in the music video reminds me of the makeup I had for a fashion show I walked in: huge black bar across the eyes fringed with blue and tinged with silver. It was not a normal fashion show, haha.
"Bulletproof"
And here's "I'm Not Your Toy," which I'd also never seen the music video for. Gosh is it creepy. She's great.
Ditto "Quicksand"
Ditto "In For The Kill"

ReplyDelete1) Bulletproof was kind of boring (though all of her outfits/makeup were very cool). I thought they could've been a bit more creative--i guess because it's her most popular song in the US right now, the video certainly captures her essence: androgynous, 80's, electronic what-have-you
2) I'm not your toy is very cool. I thought it was innovative and intriguing--the kind of video I'd watch again to see if I could better understand it. It used those tropical drum undertones in the song as inspiration, I'm guessing...plus it's a great aesthetic to juxtapose with her own surreal look.
3) Quicksand is an homage to james bond and that kind of danger/sex/exotic feel. it was ok...kind of postmodern with the green screen use.
4) In for the kill was also in that whole spy genre with a little blade runner thrown in. but the lover stalker in the car thing is a little cliche, save for the cool glasses with the keyed in silhouettes/faces.
All in all, I approve of the videos, but the best part is probably her hairstyle. I wanttttt
The styling in "I'm not your toy" is amazing, and I love her bare-faced look.
