Ever since my chic British girlfriend lent me her beautiful French Connection dress to wear for a special occasion last year (layers of black silk [sheer, non-sheen] in thin bandeau-style [before it became ubiquitous] in a minidress with cap sleeves), I've become aware that the brand makes very beautiful clothing -- I had always thought that it was a little sparse, a tad too boring and a bit too expensive for my taste. But I've been converted -- I can't wait to buy my own beautiful French Connection dress, one which I will want to wear over and over. Now I just have to find the perfect one...
For the special occasion, I had been deciding between the black silk dress and a white long-sleeved sequined minidress, also by French Connection. The detailing on their dresses is gorgeous, and the materials so luxe. This gets added up there with BCBG as favorite clothing companies, esp for dresses.
You've probably seen more French Connection than you realize:
The ubiquitous Bonny dress, seen at college formals around the nation.
Paintbox dress... so many colors! Happy, yay.
Oooh I like...
You can see the punchouts better on the cream. (Click on the dress to see larger.) Subtly sexy.
Now you see why this blogger almost worked there. I love FCUK's dresses, though sometimes they can be a little too extreme or childish. Their sizes run really small, too. But one of my favorite dresses is from there--it's this one (but an earlier, cuter version that has an uneven hem (higher in the front, longer in the back). Looks good belted:
