We had been ripping on them during their opening set, but when we met them backstage we still (though we made fun of the bassist for being the dumbest person in existence...he couldn't really form sentences) had to tell them "great show" and "congrats!"
Isn't language a funny filter for how we really feel? We still get somewhat starstruck, even if the people don't have much talent...
PS: Conor Oberst and I had turquoise rings and he liked my bracelets. He had some interesting jewelry himself, including a feather necklace that looked kind of like chest hair when he was on stage...
He was also wearing these amazing vintage boots from the 20's with rolled up black denim, which my friend and I agreed was very LA cool. And even though I don't really think LA is cool, I liked his clothing taste.
