Chanel

I'm losing faith in the fashion industry, namely Chanel. Lagerfeld decided to stage the show around/through a giant iceberg. Next they'll be saying that the jungle is in and have women running around in loincloths with Tarzan. Fashion works on oppositions, non? DERELICTE!
http://nymag.com/daily/fashion/2010/03/karl_lagerfeld_sends_beast_mod.html
FROM STYLE.COM:
"Freja Beha Erichsen and three bears on an ice floe. This was the arctic scene at Chanel, where giant chunks of bona fide iceberg, specially transported from Scandinavia, formed the frozen landscape around which models solemnly splashed through a sea of 'berg-melt in shaggy snow boots with ice-block heels."
...
"Nevertheless, putting global warming and the melting of ice caps both center stage and on the back burner (as it were), this show swept the audience along as they were treated to such amusements as seeing Karl Lagerfeld's favorite, Baptiste Giabiconi, swagger out of an ice cave in a full-length polar bear coat."

left: I loved Star Wars as a kid. This isn't what I had in mind when I thought maybe some day I could be in it. right: blue steel

I actually like this leather motorcycle jacket. The rest is heinous, though.

This cut, the fur starting above/at the elbow, seems popular this season. I hate this, though.

EW ARM!! EAT FOOD!! Unfortunate buttons on the front, ugly trim on the skirt. Gross in general.
Speechless.

Ughhhhh

Pants/turtleneck are pretty sweet, but the coat is absurd. I could see someone wearing it to an event, though...? Cruella DeVille or glam? Pimp, maybe?

Ok, now this guy just looks sad that he's wearing this Muppet costume.

Now, this I don't mind too much. I would like to see what the shirt with the bows looks like underneath.

I'd wear this angora sweaterdress. Love that icy blue color. The ring looks pretty, too.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this.

Sasha is just like, yep, I know, this show is absurd, but I'll do anything for Karl, since he basically got me my career by making me the face of Chanel cosmetics last year and now having me walk in all of his shows always because I'm so striking. Wish I could take these boots off now...
I actually love everything about this final look except for the boots.

JPG Paris Fall 2010 RTW

Neo-orientalism (look at the rest of the collection)?

Love the socks on the last model.

SHOES/SILHOUETTE

I seriously want those shoes. Slash this collection was just so cool, you know? RDJ has good taste. Alber Elbaz is a clean, clear-cut designer who knows how to balance soft femininity with hard, modern aesthetics.

Balenciaga

I love the shoes in this collection. Post-modern in its deconstruction of classic silhouettes (look for the torso-encircling fur) and allusions to popular media, Balenciaga stands out from other fall collections. Pant suits and dresses allude to late 1960's/early 1970's aesthetics of modern architecture and futurism. Could see it as a mixture of "2001", Warhol and "A Clockwork Orange"? I'm not sure how I feel about the collection--it's certainly making me think, but I'm having trouble appreciating it, especially with the newsprint shirts. It seems rather self-indulgent. Or is Nicolas Ghesquiere a genius for digging up these styles again?

I've included my favorites below (just realized how much I like pale/pastel colors...), but here's the rest of the collection (including the more deconstructed, segmented looks):

Vivienne Westwood

One of my favorite designers. Go England.

Westwood, along with former husband Malcolm McLaren, has been called the creator of the punk aesthetic, starting at their store "Sex" in London and carried through their relationship with the Sex Pistols. Westwood took off as a designer who pushes the envelope and breathes excitement, insecurity and discomfort into fashion. Combining S&M, British history (tartans) and romanticism into her collections (see Anglomania), Westwood has intriguing vision and never bores. She makes a great show. Basically, Britain wins in terms of designers (Westwood, Galliano, McQueen...) Her shoes are stunning, too; one pair caused Naomi Campbell to fall in the 90's (12" platforms, nbd).

Check out her newest collection here.

My favorites:
I love everything about this.
shoes and jacket

mixing everything. so whimsical

i want to wear this outfit

tie headband, jacket, tights, uneven skirt

LOVE THIS! shoes are so fun

i die. bananas.

Halston

When I think of Halston, images of vintage gowns from the 1970's come to mind:

But the fall RTW collecting is fascinating, modern and completely updated. Look at the revitalized draping; the silhouettes faithful to the designer's aesthetic. Playful textures highlight throwback colors. And the shoes! So sexy. And finally, I love the felt hats. Kind of like 1970's cartoon meets 21st century city-warrior-woman. The pieces are structured and intriguingly draped, bright colors are balanced with drab shoes, textures bounce off each other...perhaps these are the themes we are supposed to pick up on? Putting cohesion, vision and experimentation aside, some of these dresses and ensembles are simply cool. Don't some of these dresses remind you of dresses you could buy at Reiss? Same category, I suppose. Check out my favorites below and the rest of the collection here

Alexander Wang Fall 2010 RTW

I love these pant-leg-things and the sunglasses.

Cool sweater

like the skirt, very 90's

But the rest of the collection, I think, is bad. Lots of ill-fitting dresses and pants. I know that he's probably trying to push the envelope making unflattering clothes, but it comes off as amateurish and "derelicte" instead of being serious.

Like I said, though, those pant-leg-covering-things are pretty awesome.

Check the whole collection out here.
